Check Domain Availability
To check whether or not a domain name is available, you can query the relevant port 43 server using the WHOIS protocol with standard query tools. Our servers are at WHOIS.GG for Guernsey names and at WHOIS.JE for Jersey names. Please note that some obsolescent WHOIS clients will not work unless you explicitly specify the server in the query; e.g. $whois --host whois.gg nametocheck.gg ; (where nametocheck.gg is the name you are interested in) The answer provided by our port 43 server will in the following format: The first line will consist of the word "status:" followed by one of three numbers. status:0 Domain not found status:1: Domain is registered status:2 Incorrect query (Unsupported TLD or syntax error) Following that there will be additional plain text output and additional information about the domain registration, such as the current nameservers. Please note that a domain not found (status:0) response, while giving a strong indication that a domain name is unregistered, does not necessarily mean that the domain is definitely available for registration, as some names are reserved.
